Mariachiara Zanetti graduated in Mining Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin and obtained her PhD in chemical engineering. Since October 2015 she is Deputy Director of the Department of Environmental, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) of the Turin Polytechnic. From July 2012 to September 2015 she was a member of the Academic Senate of the Polytechnic of Turin. From 2008 to 2012 she was Director of the Department of Environmental, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) of the Turin Polytechnic. Since 2006 she is Full Professor of Environmental Health Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino. From 2002 to 2006 she was Associate Professor of Environmental Health Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin. From 1996 to 2002 she was Researcher in Engineering of Raw Materials.

Her scientific activity is related, in particular, to the following areas:

• Analysis of the production cycle of companies to minimize the polluting flows in the environment by using dedicated technologies for the treatment and reduction at the source of pollution.
• Technologies for the advanced treatment of wastewater and drinking water.
• Characterization and remediation of contaminated sites.
• Technologies for the treatment and recycling of industrial waste.
• Water management for the minimization of consumption and disposal costs.
• Dynamics of pollutants in the atmosphere and evaluation of externalities.
• Cost analysis and environmental management systems.

Her main activities are:

• the development of applied research in environmental health engineering through public and private funding,
• the organization of research groups, conferences and lectures in degree and doctorate courses on methods related to methods and technologies for minimizing the environmental impact caused by human activities
